Bingo become popular in Australia at the beginning of the 20th century but was called “housie” instead of bingo. A form of bingo was used as an education tool in Germany to teach students maths, dating back to the 19th century. Bingo became popular in the United Kingdom in the early 1960’s, when land bingo clubs appeared in the big towns and cities. One of first pioneers of land bingo was the huge gaming and leisure group called Mecca.
With their initial success, more and more land clubs appeared on the scene. Back in those days it was mainly a woman’s game and attracted the older generation.
